Shedeur Sanders warned heading into second season with Browns, but it’s unfair for this reason

The future of Shedeur Sanders with the Cleveland Browns has definitely been a hot topic over the past few months, though early reports in the offseason had indicated that he has a real opportunity to be the starting quarterback for this franchise.

Barring something drastic happening, Sanders should at least be the QB2, and if Deshaun Watson struggles or deals with another injury, he should at least be the guy in line to come in and get a shot.

I still think Sanders will be the starter just because of what we’ve seen out of Watson during his time in Cleveland, but others don’t expect that to be the case, and even if he does get a chance, don’t expect him to be some superstar player like many are hoping for.

“There are too many things that need to go right for Sanders to have a sophomore breakout,” Alex Kay of BR wrote. “He may eventually develop into a franchise passer, but expecting a massive Year 2 leap isn’t realistic.”

In Sanders’ defense here, it really isn’t fair to say that he’s going to have a breakout season when there’s limited talent around him. Had the Browns been a better team on the offensive side of the football, I think we could put more expectations on him.

Sadly, his offensive threats are far from ideal, and most young quarterbacks would struggle with who he has to throw the football to.
