Super Eagles striker Akor Adams shut his critics up with a brilliant display in Sevilla’s 2-1 win over Espanyol at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán yesterday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

Prior to the clash against Manolo Gonzalez’s side, the 26-year-old had only played three minutes in Sevilla’s last two games, with coach Luis Garcia stating he felt Neal Maupay and Gerard Romero could offer more in attack than the Nigerian at the moment.

An early second-half goal from Espanyol’s Tyrhys Dolan meant Sevilla were now in the relegation zone, and in a frenzy, Luis Garcia made four changes.

Akor Adams would be the final throw of the dice with 15 minutes left to spare, and the ex-Montpellier man didn’t disappoint. After playing a key role in Andres Lopez’s equaliser, Adams scored the winner in the 91st minute, sending the Sevilla fans wild.

Soccer Akor Adams elated with Sevilla’s victory

The striker recently quelled rumours about a potential transfer to the English Premier League this summer, maintaining his goal was to help Sevilla maintain top-flight status at the end of the season, and his performance last night did just that.

“I’m very happy for the three points, for my teammates. We work hard and we are very happy for the three points,” the Nigerian forward said in quotes revealed by Sevilla’s official website.

“Sevilla is a very important club in the league, in the city. The coach reminds us of this every day. The last two matches of the fans have been incredible and the work of the teammates too.

“90 minutes running all over the field. These three points are very important to us, for the joy of the dressing room, of the city; It’s been incredible.

“We are focused on each game, on getting the three points. Now we will go to Villarreal and gradually take steps in making sure we hit out target.

“I feel Sevilla in my heart and work every day for the club. This goal is very important to achieve the three points and make the fans happy,” Akor Adams concluded.
