“Parenthood doesn’t end at the altar” — Nigerian woman shares heartwarming video of her husband supporting their pregnant daughter during labour

A Nigerian woman from Plateau State, Kyenpiya Nyabam, has sparked an outpouring of emotion online after sharing a video of her husband standing beside their pregnant daughter during labour, a gesture that many are calling a quiet but powerful display of fatherly love.

Nyabam posted the video on Facebook on Monday, April 13, alongside a lengthy caption reflecting on what she witnessed. In the post, she described watching her husband stand in the delivery space alongside their daughter and son-in-law as one of the most moving moments she had experienced as a mother.

“Watching my husband stand there, strong, steady, present, not just as a father who had given away his daughter, but as one who still covers, supports, and shows up,” she wrote, adding that the moment reshaped how she thinks about parenthood and marriage.

Her central message was that giving a child away in marriage does not mean stepping back from their lives entirely. In her words, parents do not give their children away but rather release them into purpose while remaining their safe place.

She also credited writer Judith Yop Pam-Tok for inspiring part of her reflection, noting that she drew from Pam-Tok’s own writing about parental presence during vulnerable moments.

The post has resonated widely, with many commenters sharing their own experiences and praising the family for modelling what involved, emotionally present parenthood looks like beyond the wedding day.
