“I wanted to write something dreamy and simple…”

Charlie Vaughan with new single ‘Don’t Wanna Drive’.
Out now, the track taps into the English songwriter’s craft for melody, a hazy Spring-focussed jewel that merges deft indie tropes with an ace ear-worm chorus.
Fresh from supporting The Backseat Lovers and indie-rock royalty Hamilton Leithauser across Europe and the UK last year, Charlie Vaughan takes this energy into the studio on his refreshing new single.
‘Don’t Wanna Drive’ represents an urge towards simplicity, with Charlie trimming down his songwriting into something more direct.
“I wanted to write something dreamy and simple – no crazy structures” Charlie elaborates. “When we started to play the song on the road it changed a lot, we started playing it fast and with really driving drums. The bit at the end came from a beautiful fluke at a rehearsal and me and the band knew this was the perfect end.”
Backed by a neat video, you can catch Charlie Vaughan at London’s Paper Dress Vintage tonight (April 10th).
Tune in now.
