CBS Cancels “Watson” & “DMV” Series

CBS

CBS has announced tonight that it has cancelled its shows “Watson” and “DMV,” the medical procedural ending after two seasons and the workplace comedy after a single season.

Of the two, “Watson” was the more high-profile and an attempt to recapture the network’s success with “Elementary” – this time switching out a contemporary police procedural involving Sherlock Holmes with a contemporary medical procedural focusing on Dr. John Watson.

Morris Chestnut leads the cast as the head of a medical clinic focused on rare disorders and medical mysteries, as Watson deals with the death of his best friend Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle), who disappeared over the Reichenbach Falls alongside James Moriarty (Randall Park) in the opening moments of the pilot. Ultimately both are revealed to have survived.

The show had a solid first season run in early 2025 but the audience didn’t return much for the second season – the most recent episode pulling in 3.1 million in Live+Same Day numbers. The show’s season finale will now air on May 3rd.

Dana Klein’s Department of Motor Vehicles workplace comedy “DMV” starred Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows and Tony Cavalero and will conclude with a finale on May 11th. Its most recent episode garnered 2.8 million viewers in its live airing.

The cancellations follow a slew of renewals for the 2026-2027 season including recent premieres like “Marshals,” “CIA” and “George & Mandy’s First Marriage” along with regulars like “Tracker,”Matlock,” “Elsbeth,” “Fire Country,” “Sheriff Country,” “Ghosts,” “FBI,” “Boston Blue,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Origins” and “NCIS: Sydney”.
