Gladys Kipsang is among those who have made fellow Kenyans proud, with her latest milestone going viral.

Gladys Kipsang’s journey in US Army

She has successfully marked 13 years of service in the US Army, where she works as an orthopaedic surgeon and military doctor.

Her active duty has been defined by resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

“Over the years, her journey has been shaped by demanding early mornings, long nights, and time spent away from family during holidays, all in service to a cause greater than herself. The experience, she reflects, has not only tested her limits but also built the strength and character she carries today.

Kipsang describes the path as challenging but deeply rewarding, highlighting the lessons learned, the discipline gained, and the sense of purpose that continues to guide her forward,” Peter Njenga shared on Facebook.

Mercy Koech recounts war in Afghanistan

In another story, a Kenyan woman who retired from the US Navy narrated her experience fighting in Afghanistan.

Mercy Koech recounted how she joined the US military after being told she was too short to join the Kenyan army.

The rejection turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as she later joined the US Army, received training, and eventually moved to the Navy, where she had the opportunity to serve during the Afghanistan war.

“That was the craziest experience. We first flew to Qatar, then to Kuwait. You could carry over five bags with you, and no one helps you. Before landing in Afghanistan, you are given warnings. Once the plane lands, you have to be on the move. Rocket attacks were very common. The Taliban are very alert. We were a crew of 83 people. You land as you move,” she said.
