A new EP from the wordsmith…
20 · 03 · 2026
Detroit riser Chasey The Illest has shared his new EP ‘Cirrus Clouds’.
The rapper is blessed with an incredible imagination, someone who grew up completely infatuated by hip-hop culture. Hailing from Detroit, Chasey The Illest shares some of the city’s staunch originality, blending street level finesse with revelatory word play.
Utilising a sharp ear for production, Chasey The Illest slots perfectly into each carefully selected beat, using the electronics as bedrock for his lyrical excursions.
You can hear aspects of J. Cole or JID in his work, with breakout EP ‘Afraid Of Heights’ establishing a unique, original voice.
Out now, follow-up ‘Cirrus Clouds’ steps outside definitions, with Chasey The Illest ripping up the rulebook. Rap music of real pan-genre appeal, the release feels like a real marker for this potent Michigan riser.
Chasey says of the EP –
“’Cirrus Clouds’ is a short collection of what I would call my journey to making it ‘big’. Moments of my life, trying to get to the top, wherever that is. Its original purpose was supposed to be a follow-up to my previous EP ‘Afraid Of Heights’, but now I think ‘Cirrus Clouds’ just has its own thing.”
Tune in now.
