Music Video Premiere: Courtney Elle Unveils “JUKE”

Music

Pop/R&B artist Courtney Elle releases her new single/music video “JUKE,” a collaboration with AJA Live writer, producer, and director Darrell Lawrence. “JUKE” blends a potent funky bassline and old-school R&B textures into a vibrant, retro-flavored tune.

Elle explains, “‘JUKE’ is a 1940s-inspired party video that plays with reality versus perception: in my world, a dive bar morphs into The Cotton Club or The Savoy, mirroring the way my music holds fun and depth in the same breath. The track’s off-the-cuff ‘rubber chicken and stanky leg’ line was born from pure studio goofing, folded into a narrative that captures a juxtaposition of the silly and the serious.”

Raised in Wilmington, Delaware on a diet of Top 40 pop and country storytelling—Shania Twain included—Elle brings those melodic instincts with her, reshaped into something more intimate and authentic.

With “JUKE,” Courtney Elle turns a dingy dive bar into a fever dream, where cheap neon flickers into the glamour of The Cotton Club and The Savoy. The song resonates on the tension between grit and fantasy, capturing how a night out can take on Hollywood glitz when the rhythm locks in. Even the tossed‑off “rubber chicken and stanky leg” line lands with purpose—proof that Elle knows humor and feeling don’t compete, they coexist.

Her sound draws from pop, R&B, and funk history, without slipping into the trap of imitative masquerade. Parliament‑sized basslines and classic R&B swing anchor the track, while her theatrical instincts and visual flair keep it moving forward.

That focus sharpens through her collaboration with producer Darrell Lawrence, a veteran whose steady hand adds polish without diminishing Elle’s personality. The result is music that feels playful but intentional, rooted in the past yet eager for what’s next—an artist settling into her voice and coming into her own with aplomb.

The video, directed by Lawrence, depicts Elle in a party setting, dressed in chic, 40s-inspired, throwback outfits, with a variety of hairstyles. The deliciously pulsing bass and loose percussive cadence infuse the song with a slinky, smooth feel as Elle’s evocative vocals imbue the lyrics with lusciously wicked diva tones.

With its funky, appealing groove and the oh-so expressive voice of Courtney Elle, “JUKE” forms a contagious earworm.
