‘Beautiful success’ —Alzheimer Society and local church host Chords and Connections

Dozens of people gathered inside a Tecumseh church last week to hear music and make memories with the first ever Chords & Connections.

The Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County and St. Mark’s by-the-Lake Anglican Church hosted the “uplifting outreach event” on Feb. 26.

“What an incredible way to kick things off,” the Alzheimer Society wrote on social media. “Our very first Chords of Connection event was filled with so much joy, laughter, music, and meaningful moments. From the smiles to the shared songs, the connection in the room was truly something special.”

Chords & Connections ran from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake in Tecumseh. The free event included live music, light refreshments, and social time in “a welcoming and supportive environment.”

Organizers said the afternoon event blended “themes of music, memory, and fellowship.”

“Chords & Connections is designed to bring people together through the power of music — a meaningful way to spark memories, encourage conversation, and foster connection, particularly for individuals living with dementia and their care partners.”

Chords &Connections was open to anyone, but the event was aimed at people living with dementia and those taking care of them.

“We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this first gathering such a beautiful success,” the Alzheimer Society said. “This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to create many more moments like this together. Thank you for being part of the music, the connection, and the joy.”
