Rogbid has introduced a new smartwatch that promises an extensive feature set and a rugged design at an affordable price. It also offers multiple exercise modes and an electrocardiogram function, though the latter comes with certain limitations.
The Rogbid Rowatch 12 is a new wearable that claims to offer a broad feature set. One of its highlighted functions is the ability to create and analyse electrocardiograms (ECGs). We’ve previously confirmed that even very low-cost smartwatches can generate ECGs, since the underlying principle and required technology are relatively simple. However, it’s entirely unclear whether the Rowatch 12 can not only generate but also correctly interpret an ECG as advertised. Unsurprisingly, the product isn’t a certified medical device, unlike Samsung Galaxy Watch models (available here on Amazon).
The Rowatch 12 uses an optical sensor to measure heart rate and blood oxygen levels. While this allows the device to monitor exercise intensity, it can’t accurately track performance because it lacks a GNSS module, which is especially important for activities such as running. The product page also contains several claims that warrant considerable scepticism, including its supposed ability to assess depression risk and monitor blood pressure.
The device is equipped with a 1.47-inch AMOLED display and a stainless steel case. Because it is only rated IP68, it isn’t fully waterproof and shouldn’t be worn while swimming. The Rowatch 12 is available from the official store for US$60.
