The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said no political party can aspire to national relevance without a strong, active, and properly documented membership.
The party noted further that membership is the lifeblood of any democratic organisation, saying as such, it determines legitimacy, strength, reach, and ultimately, electoral victory.
The ADC national chairman, Senator David Mark, made the remarks on Wednesday while delivering his speech at the inauguration of the Membership, Revalidation, Mobilisation, and Registration (MRMR) Committee in Abuja.
Mark noted that as the party looks ahead to future political engagements, it has become imperative to revalidate existing members, register new ones, strengthen grassroots presence, and harmonize membership records nationwide.
The committee, according to him, has therefore been entrusted with a critical national assignment.
He said, “This event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to reposition our party for growth, strength, and internal cohesion.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) was founded on the principles of justice, equity, accountability, and people-centered governance. For these ideals to translate into political success, our party must rest on a solid, credible, and verifiable membership base, supported by effective mobilization structures across the federation.
“It is in recognition of this urgent necessity that, following the resolution of our National Working Committee (NWC), I approved the constitution of this Committee.”
Mark then tasked them to discharge duties with integrity, fairness, transparency, and a deep sense of patriotism.
In his acceptance speech, the committee chairman, Sashimi Imam, who is leading the 20 man-committee, accepted the responsibility, promising to discharge it diligently.
“Most importantly, we will return the African Democratic Congress to the average Nigerian. Our party, the ADC, is a grassroots movement.
“This is what is going to make the ADC very different. That it will belong to the average Nigerian. Our party will strive to ensure that the average Nigerian gets a fair share.”
