Report: Xbox & PlayStation Could Delay Next-Gen Consoles Due To RAM Price Increases

Back in November, we shared a report from Moore’s Law Is Dead on YouTube that suggested Xbox Series X|S prices could increase again soon due to RAM shortages, and there’s concern that it might delay the next Xbox console as well.

Well-known insider Tom Henderson has shared via Insider Gaming today that console manufacturers are “debating” whether to delay next-gen consoles from their current window of 2027-2028, in the hope that RAM manufacturers will be able to “build out their infrastructure to produce more RAM” in the meantime.

Here’s a bit of what he had to say:

“From what we understand, the situation has led console manufacturers to debate whether the next generation of consoles should be delayed from their intended 2027-2028 release window, with the hope that RAM manufacturers will be able to build out their infrastructure to produce more RAM, thereby allowing prices to drop.”

Henderson mentions in the report about potential Xbox Series X|S (and PS5) price increases as well, while also noting that next-gen consoles could be “extortionate” in price when they eventually arrive.

All of this is said to stem from the rapid demand for AI, with RAM module prices increasing “by several hundred percent in the past few months” as a result.

The most recent rumours have suggested Xbox is targeting a 2027 release for its next-gen console, and we’ve speculated before how it could be announced on the exact date of Xbox’s 25th anniversary (November 15th, 2026), but perhaps we’ll now have to wait until 2028 or even later to get our hands on it.
