The NFL Week 17 slate of Sunday games will cap off with a Sunday Night Football matchup between the Chicago Bears (11-4) on the road against the San Francisco 49ers (11-4).
The Eagles are rooting for the 49ers to win this game because a Bears loss keeps the Birds alive for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff picture. If they get their desired result, the Eagles can clinch the No. 2 seed by then 1) beating the Washington Commanders in Week 18 and 2) the Bears losing to the Detroit Lions in Chicago.
The all time regular-season series between these teams is tied, 33-33-1, and the home team has won the past two meetings. They last faced off in early-December 2024, when the 49ers won at home, 38-13. They’ve also played each other three times in the postseason, but San Francisco is 3-0 in those matchups, with their most recent playoff victory against Chicago coming 30 years ago.
Things are a little different this season, however. Not only did the Bears clinch their first playoff spot since 2020, but after the Lions and Packers losses earlier in the weekend, they’ve also won the NFC North for the first time since 2018.
