MORGANTOWN, WV, December 19, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Joy Hutchinson, PhD, LPC-MHSP, NCC, BC-TMH, CCTP-II, EMT-P, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hutchinson has established a distinguished career in counseling, counselor education, and first responder mental wellness, marked by sustained contributions to research, teaching, clinical practice, and professional service. Since 2024, she has served as an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University, where she teaches and provides clinical supervision in master’s-level counselor training programs. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she maintains a clinical practice and serves as the program’s CACREP Liaison, Co-Faculty Advisor for Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), and a faculty senator.

Prior to joining West Virginia University, Dr. Hutchinson served as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University–Texarkana from 2023 to 2024. During her tenure, she also held roles as Program Coordinator, CACREP Liaison, and CSI Co-Faculty Advisor, contributing to program development and student mentorship.

Dr. Hutchinson is a Licensed Professional Counselor–Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee and currently provides clinical services via telehealth. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in trauma- and grief-informed counseling for first responders and military personnel and regularly presents at professional conferences across the United States.

From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Hutchinson worked as a mental health counselor in Memphis, Tennessee, while concurrently serving during her doctoral studies as a clinical mental health counseling graduate assistant and instructor at The University of Memphis. Her early clinical training was completed during her master’s internship in Mandeville, Louisiana, where she provided counseling services through Catholic Charities from 2018 to 2019.

Dr. Hutchinson began her professional career with a decade of service as a paramedic with Acadian Ambulance in the Greater New Orleans area from 2007 to 2017. This experience significantly shaped her professional focus and ongoing advocacy related to first responder mental health and wellness.

Academically, Dr. Hutchinson earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Mental Health from the University of Memphis in 2023. She also holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Social Counseling from the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans, as well as an associate degree in emergency medical technology from South Louisiana Community College.

Her professional credentials include licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor–Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee, national certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC), board certification in telemental health (BC-TMH), and advanced certification as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional–Level II (CCTP-II). She also maintains her credentials as a paramedic (EMT-P).

Dr. Hutchinson’s research focuses on first responder mental wellness, trauma exposure, counseling access, and help-seeking behaviors. She has authored peer-reviewed publications including “Anxiety, Burnout, Depression, and Suicidality Among EMS Professionals: Perceptions of Counseling Services” in the Journal of Military and Government Counseling and “The Lived Experiences of Emergency Medical Technicians When Seeking Individual Counseling” in Psychological Services. She regularly presents her research at national professional conferences and is currently working on more manuscripts.

She maintains active membership in professional organizations including the American Counseling Association, Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Military and Government Counseling Association, and the West Virginia Counseling Association. Her professional service includes grant review, conference proposal evaluation, manuscript review, textbook review, and advocacy-related committee work.

Dr. Hutchinson has received multiple honors and awards in recognition of her academic and professional contributions, including research and training grants, dissertation support funding, and an Outstanding Student Award from the University of Holy Cross.

Outside of her professional activities, Dr. Hutchinson values time with her family and outdoor activities. She remains committed to advancing counselor education, reducing stigma associated with mental health care among first responders, and promoting evidence-informed policy initiatives that support long-term wellness in high-risk professions.
