One Win Not Enough: Highlanders FC Show De Jongh the Exit Door

Highlanders FC Dump Pieter De Jongh After Underwhelming Four-Month Spell

Highlanders have officially parted ways with Dutch coach Pieter De Jongh after choosing not to extend his contract, bringing an end to a brief and largely unconvincing spell at the club.

A Short Tenure With Little Impact

According to Soccer24, De Jongh’s final assignment came on Sunday against Chicken Inn, closing a stint that lasted just over four months.

He arrived in July on a temporary deal, stepping in at a time when Bosso were desperate for stability. The club had been struggling for consistency, and he replaced interim coach Try Ncube with the hope of steering the team toward a stronger finish.

League Performance Fails to Inspire Confidence

Despite the expectations, the team’s fortunes barely shifted. Highlanders managed just one league victory under his guidance, accompanied by seven draws and one defeat.

This sequence left Bosso battling to secure their PSL status until the final weekend — a situation that convinced the club’s leadership that a new direction was necessary.

The high volume of draws and lack of cutting edge became a major talking point among supporters and officials alike.

Cup Exit Added to the Frustration

De Jongh’s time in the Chibuku Super Cup also ended on a disappointing note.

Highlanders reached the semifinals but were sent packing by fierce rivals Dynamos, further diminishing the Dutchman’s prospects of staying on.

Fan Reactions as Bosso Parts Ways With De Jongh

Supporters have expressed mixed feelings following Highlanders’ decision to let Pieter De Jongh go.

Some fans welcomed the move, arguing that his departure was necessary as concerns over discipline had begun to surface, while others felt he deserved credit for stabilising the team during a difficult period.

Many noted that Bosso were sinking when he arrived and believe his ability to grind out draws played a role in keeping the club in the PSL. Despite this, calls for a fresh start dominated the discussion, with supporters suggesting names such as Joel Luphahla and Norman Mapeza as possible replacements.

@Mtha Nyoni;
