Applications are now open for the program, which is slated to start January 2026

Seneca Polytechnic has announced its first-ever AI master’s degree. The program, Master of Artificial Intelligence Design & Development, is the first for any college or polytechnic in Ontario. Applications are open with a program scheduled for January 2026.
The two-year program should bridge advanced AI theory and real-world business applications, and aims to give students expertise in machine and natural language processing, computer vision, data science and AI ethics, and also develop skills to design and deploy AI solutions across a range of industries.
The program isn’t the first AI offering at Seneca, as the college also offers an AI graduate certificate and the Bachelor of Engineering (Software Engineering) degree. However, the Master of AI program will also require students to complete either two four-month internships or one eight-month internship, for a total of 840 hours of hands-on experience.
Seneca’s focus on AI includes:
- Access to Microsoft Copilot
SAM, Seneca’s 24/7 AI virtual assistant for prospective and current students accessing information and services
My Tutor, an AI learning companion used across Seneca courses
Einstein AI to fast-track student queries
AI-powered tools to prepare students for presentations, sales pitches, job searches and interviews
Applied research projects through Seneca’s Centre for Innovation in Artificial Intelligence Technology
AI Lab, a central hub – physical and virtual – to learn, understand, collaborate and innovate on activities
