Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has addressed his collapsed transfer to AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen during his unveiling at Werder Bremen, Soccernet.ng reports.

Medical red flags and Massimiliano Allegri’s veto were key to the transfer breakdown, and Boniface insists the failed deal was out of his hands.

Speaking during his unveiling at Werder Bremen, the 24-year-old dismissed suggestions that he was to blame for the breakdown of negotiations with the Serie A giants.

“The [AC] Milan deal not going through, that’s not on me. They decided not to go through with [it]. I have a strong mentality. I see life like [this]: ‘If the deal was meant to happen, it’s meant to happen. If it wasn’t meant to happen, I move on to the next thing.’ So, I’m not really bothered,” Boniface said.

Soccer Boniface’s Failed AC Milan Move: What Really Happened?

Milan had reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over a loan deal worth around €5 million, with an option to buy for €24–29 million.

However, the move collapsed after the Nigerian striker reportedly failed a series of medical checks, with doctors raising concerns about his right knee following two past ACL surgeries.

The disappointment came just months after another failed switch in January, when Boniface was close to joining Saudi side Al Nassr in a deal worth €70 million before the club turned to other targets.

Soccer Werder Bremen Secure Boniface’s Signature

Despite the setbacks, Werder Bremen offered the forward a fresh start on deadline day, signing him on a season-long loan until June 2026, with Leverkusen covering part of his wages.

Shockingly, the Nigerian striker passed his medical with the Bundesliga club and was officially unveiled earlier this week.

Soccer What Coach Steffen Said

Werder coach Horst Steffen has already expressed confidence in his new signing, with his ability to stand out in his setup.

“Victor is physically incredibly strong, has a very good finish, and good pace. He shone as a goalscorer and assist provider in Bayer Leverkusen’s championship-winning season. I’m sure he can become a key player in our group this season.” he said.

Boniface will now aim to put the drama of his failed Milan move behind him and prove his fitness and quality on the pitch as Bremen look to strengthen their attack this season.
