Seven months ago in Miami Gardens, Notre Dame punched its ticket to the national championship game. The Fighting Irish now return to South Beach in a renewal of the Catholics vs. Convicts rivalry to open the 2025 season.
Miami had the top offense in college football a year ago. But with Cam Ward going No. 1 overall in the NFL draft, the Hurricanes turned to the transfer portal and brought in Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, who will make his Miami debut on Sunday night.

For Notre Dame, it’s the start of the CJ Carr era at quarterback. Carr beat out Kenny Minchey for the starting job. The Fighting Irish bring back the nation’s top running back in Jeremiyah Love.

Notre Dame made it a one-possession game just five seconds into the fourth quarter. Quarterback CJ Carr hit wide receiver Jordan Faison for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Carr is now 12 of 20 for 92 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Miami strung together a meticulous 12-play, 75-yard drive spanning nearly eight minutes. More than half the color, the drive was capped off by a 5-yard touchdown run from North Dakota State transfer CharMar Brown. Beck was a perfect 4 of 4 for 39 yards passing on the drive, while the Miami offensive line had its way on the ground with 41 yards on eight carries.

With only 18 seconds remaining in the first half, Carson Beck threw up the ball to LSU transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels over the middle. Daniels jumped in the air and was able to pull it down for the touchdown with one hand, making the early list for catch of the year.

Facing a 3rd-and-7 and pressure from the Miami front seven, CJ Carr scrambled around the Notre Dame backfield before finding a wide-open Micah Gilbert for a 7-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown pass capped off an 11-play, 68-yard drive spanning nearly six minutes.

Carson Beck found a streaking true freshman wide receiver, Malachi Toney on the left side of the field for a 28-yard touchdown pass. It makes the first touchdown pass of Beck’s Miami career. Toney is just 17 year old and supposed to still be in high school.
