Barau to upgrade BUK stadium as club make NPFL debut

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has finalized plans to upgrade the football stadium at Bayero University Kano (BUK) as part of his commitment to sports development in Nigeria.

The initiative comes on the heels of Barau FC—a club founded by the lawmaker—securing promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

To formalize the decision, a delegation from the Deputy Senate President visited BUK management on Tuesday. The team was led by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, accompanied by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, and Special Adviser on Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Kabiru Ado Lakwaya.

Speaking during the meeting, Professor Abdallah explained that Senator Barau’s intervention is designed to transform the BUK facility into a modern arena capable of hosting national league matches and other football events.

“His Excellency has asked us to formally inform you of his plans to upgrade your football stadium so that national league and other football activities can be held there.

“As we all know, he has done many projects to address this institution’s infrastructural gaps. Now, he said BUK has to have an international football facility to benefit the university, its community, and our teeming youths,” he stated.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Professor Haruna Musa, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Senate President, noting that the gesture aligned with the vision he presented to the Governing Council upon assuming office.

“We are happy to receive this good news. Coincidentally, this is also part of the blueprint that I submitted to the University Governing Council when I was applying for the position of Vice Chancellor.

“Therefore, we thank him immensely for this gesture. On behalf of the management, I want to assure the Distinguished Senator that this initiative is well accepted by the Bayero University community. We are ready and willing to host your team and provide all the support required to make this project a huge success,” he said.
