Morgan Sindall Construction has become the second construction business to receive accreditation under a scheme to improve quality management in the built environment.
The firm won certification under BS 99001, a standard designed to help the sector implement the requirements of the Building Safety Act while boosting regulatory compliance, cutting lifecycle costs and driving up quality.
VolkerStevin and VolkerFitzpatrick, both part of VolkerWessels UK, were the first construction companies to achieve certification, in 2023.
The scheme, which builds on the internationally recognised ISO 9001 standard for quality-management systems, includes specific requirements to reflect challenges facing the built environment, such as design quality, temporary works, inspection and test plans, and documented information.
To qualify, firms must show a focus on quality-risk management, leadership accountability, competency and change management across all phases of their work, from design and procurement through to construction and handover.
They are also required to consider social, economic and sustainability factors, including progress towards net zero emissions.
Morgan Sindall Construction technical director Steffan Speer said the business was delighted to be among the earliest to achieve accreditation.
“This recognises the work our teams do to ensure compliance to standards and implementing building-safety management processes that provide a ‘golden thread’ of information across all our projects,” he said.
“The ethos of the certification is aligned directly to our own strategy of working responsibly, innovatively, and delivering exceptional experiences for our customers.”
Matt Page, the British Standards Institution’s EMEA senior vice president for assurance services, said Morgan Sindall Construction’s certification underscored its leadership in adopting best practice and improving quality across the built environment.
“This is a significant milestone, reflecting a proactive commitment to delivering projects that are of high quality and aligned with the evolving expectations of clients, regulators and communities,” he said.
“Having good quality-management processes in place is imperative if we are to build resilient, high-performing infrastructure that meets both current and future needs.”
