Samuel Chukwueze: Super Eagles star departs Nigeria for AC Milan – Why?

Soccer

Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze has left Nigeria for Italy, where he will resume at his club AC Milan on Friday, Soccernet.ng reports.

After a disappointing campaign that saw Chukwueze feature in just 36 games, most of which were off the bench, the 26-year-old Super Eagles winger is set for a big summer.

His issues did not even just start last season. Chukwueze has struggled throughout his entire stay in Milan. As such, there have been numerous talks that he will leave the Rossoneri this summer.

Soccernet.ng even reported last month that AC Milan see Chukwueze as surplus to requirements, which means that the club are will part ways with him.

There have been a few speculations about his future, with Fulham and Villarreal touted as possible destinations, but nothing concrete has emerged just yet.

Meanwhile, recent reports have revealed that Chukwueze is back in AC Milan. According to IlMilanista, per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Chukwueze is one of the first set of players who have returned to AC Milan facilities for their medical ahead of the beginning of pre-season.

@Gazzetta_it: This morning, the first group of players will already be at Milanello for various tests (on the field and in the gym).

Among those present will be Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Jimenez, Bondo, Sportiello, Bartesaghi, Pobega, and Nava, along with new signing Ricci. pic.twitter.com/JJylfvNEgG

This means that the holidays are over for Chukwueze and he will be part of the club’s pre-season.

Officially, AC Milan will play Arsenal, Liverpool, Perth Glory, Leeds United, and Chelsea for pre-season, but they could also play one or two lower tier teams to get back some game fitness before playing the big clubs they have lined up.

Soccer Will Samuel Chukwueze still leave AC Milan?

Returning for pre-season does not mean that Samuel Chukwueze will stay at AC Milan. It is quite normal for most players, who are expected to leave their clubs to join for pre-season.

Chukwueze’s quick return may mean that he wants to impress coach Allegri, fight for his place, and stay in the team.

Nonetheless, the Super Eagles star could still end up exiting Milan this summer. If the club receive a good offer, they will likely sell Chukwueze, especially as the coach has not expressed his desire to keep the former Villarreal man.

In the coming weeks though, the Super Eagles star’s future will become clearer.
