Newcastle and Burnley far apart in James Trafford valuation

Soccer

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Burnley have turned down Newcastle’s initial offer for James Trafford of £25million, and the two clubs remain far apart in their respective valuations of the 22-year-old goalkeeper. The talks in order to get the transfer done are still ongoing and personal terms are not expected to be an issue, with Trafford keen on the prospect of joining the Magpies, but a lot of work is still to be done if that is to happen this summer.

Meanwhile, reports elsewhere suggest Leeds are keeping a close eye on the situation.

In 2024/25, Trafford played a big role in Burnley’s charge towards Premier League promotion, keeping a clean sheet on an impressive 29 occasions from 46 Championship matches, and conceding no more than 16 goals.

Trafford is a product of Manchester City’s academy, and following loan spells with Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers, he joined Burnley in 2023 for a fee of just over £15million. He represented England at Under-21 level 19 times, but he is yet to make a senior appearance for his country.
