Gachagua’s Strategy to Kick Out Ruto

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has launched a nationwide mobilisation programme after the botched attempt to execute the much-publicised party launch.

In a statement released after its inaugural National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the party headquarters, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s party announced a sweeping grassroots strategy aimed at boosting its influence across the country.

The party’s planned launch at the Kasarani Sports Centre was cancelled after the venue’s management allegedly cancelled the reservation, prompting the NEC to hold its first meeting since the party’s official launch on May 17.

Following the cancellation, DCP directed its Secretary General, Cleophas Malala, to identify a private venue before the end of June where the party can hold the ceremony.  Once a venue is secured, a new launch date will be announced.

“Consequently, NEC directed the Secretary General to source an alternative and suitable private venue for the party launch within the month of June, 2025; once this is identified and agreed upon, we shall communicate to our party members and supporters accordingly,” DCP revealed in a statement.

The party’s NEC also announced an aggressive mobilisation plan, starting with the recruitment of interim county coordinators to help set up county and constituency offices nationwide.

According to a communique from the party, the grassroots structures will be instrumental in creating a wide-reaching and functional party presence in regions where the party has not yet set up physical offices.

The party also urged aspirants interested in contesting for elective positions on a DCP ticket to make contact with the party via its headquarters.

In another directive aimed at streamlining operations, DCP stated that all party offices must be sanctioned by the national leadership; otherwise, they would be deemed unlawful.

Further, the DCP also announced plans to set up aspirant forums in all 47 counties to be coordinated by newly appointed county leaders.

These forums will act as rallying points for political engagement and strategic planning, with barely two years to the next general elections.

Amid an unpredictable political landscape, Gachagua’s expansion effort appears to be a deliberate move to infiltrate areas considered strongholds of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Incidentally, these same areas are where Gachagua served as a key mobiliser before falling out with the president.
