YouTube adds live notifications on One UI 7 with cross-device controls

Samsung just started rolling out its big One UI 7 update earlier this week, and with it comes an unexpected addition in the form of cross-device YouTube controls that appear through Live Notifications and the Now Bar.

Spotted by SammyGuru, YouTube on One UI 7’s stable release (on an imported Galaxy Z Fold SE) supports the ability to sync controls from another device when playback is ongoing. The publication cites that this works between the foldable running One UI 7 with YouTube being played on a TV elsewhere in the home.

It’s unclear which mechanic this is relying on, though.

Google supports cross-device controls for “other devices” on the same network as your phone when audio or video is being sent to other devices via Cast. If it only works with YouTube, it suggests a potential new feature in the app that leverages Live Notifications in Android 15 with One UI 7, a feature Android 16 looks to expand on, since that’s where these cross-device controls are appearing.

In a conversation, Jeff Springer of SammyGuru further explained that these notifications appeared while using YouTube on a Sony TV (so Google TV) without Cast, and added that YouTube still shows Live Notifications while local playback is ongoing.

This seems to only be supported thus far on the stable rollout of One UI 7 to older devices, as it’s not supported on the Galaxy S25 series in our testing. At the same time as this appeared, though, a Google Play System Update quietly pushed forward support for YouTube to show up in the Now Bar on Galaxy S25, but not with Live Notification support just yet.

Samsung is pushing One UI 7 out to more regions including the US starting tomorrow, April 10.
