Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Reims: Barcola stars in Coupe de France final

Soccer

Bradley Barcola played a starring role for Paris Saint-Germain as his two goals and one assist helped his team beat Reims 3-0 in the Coupe de France final on Saturday.

The Ligue 1 champions were out of sight after a ruthless first-half showing, with Barcola’s quickfire brace followed up by Achraf Hakimi’s close-range finish before half-time.

Luis Enrique’s team were unable to add to their lead after the restart, but the damage had already been done as they claimed a 16th Coupe de France title with ease.

It gives them a solid foundation to build on ahead of next week’s Champions League final against Inter, where they will look to end their wait for a major European honour.

Barcola opened the scoring in the 16th minute, racing in behind the Reims defence to collect Desire Doue’s incisive pass before finishing past Yehvann Diouf.

The pair combined again three minutes later, with Marquinhos’s ball down the right finding Doue, who squared the ball for Barcola to finish from inside the six-yard box.

And the first-half rout was completed two minutes before the break when Barcola’s teasing delivery to the back post found Hakimi, who stroked the ball home on the volley.

PSG came close to increasing their advantage just after the hour, but Ousmane Dembele saw his effort pushed onto the post by the legs of Reims goalkeeper Diouf.

But having done all the hard work in the opening 45 minutes, the Parisiens cruised towards the finish line, defending the crown they claimed against Lyon last season.

Data Debrief: Barcola matches Zlatan with fine showing

PSG capped off an incredible domestic season by clinching a second treble in as many campaigns, having already lifted the league title and Trophee des Champions.

Their most recent success was led by Barcola, who ended the contest with team-high totals for dribbles (six) and shots on target (three) in the contest.

Indeed, the Frenchman also became only the second player to be involved in three goals in a single Coupe de France final in the 21st century, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic also did so for PSG against Marseille back in 2016 (also two goals and one assist).

And the Parisiens strolled to victory, ending the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.84 from their 20 shots, while restricting Reims to a 0.14 xG from their four attempts, only one of which forced Matvey Safonov into making a save.
