FCTA threatens to flush out officials aiding illegal development

By Daniel Tyokua

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has threatened to weld big stick on officials found to be aiding illegal development in Abuja.

Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Mr. Felix Obuah stated this during the fresh demolition of unauthorised structures at Utako and Guzape Districts on Monday.

He said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has been spending so much on the staff welfare and would not tolerate laxity that could lead to flood in the territory.

While at Guzape District, Obuah said most of the structures were built on water channels which he described as distortion of the master plan

He said the area was approved and designed for 18 houses, but 42 houses were built against the approved number.

Obuah said FCT Administration would not take chances with any officers overseeing sites and aiding developer to carry out illegal work.

Reacting, the developer at Guzape who identified himself as Kadiri Obaidi alleged that the developments were carried out by the subscribers and not his firm, Citiscape Estate.

However, Obuah halted the retention wall being carried out on a green area, park number 293 in Utako district and ordered for immediate demolition.

According to him, despite the stop work order since last March, 2025, the developers failed to heed to the directive, saying the development in Utako is said to be carried out by some expatriates still on the run.

Obuah said, “Any other building that does not have approval, or that is built on a waterway or on a road corridor will go, is no longer business as usual.

“We are no longer going to take chances with any officers. They have been paid their salaries.

“They have been taken good care of. So, there is no reason why the minister of FCT, Chief Administrative Officer of the city having sleepless nights to change the narrative of Abuja, while some elements are busy sabotaging the effort, we can’t allow it”

On his part, the Director, Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima said violating of Abuja master plan would affect the city’s development.
