Ex-Leicester City midfielder backs Wilfred Ndidi for summer move away from the Foxes

Former Leicester City and England midfielder, Lee Andrew Hendrie, has backed Super Eagles star, Wilfred Ndidi, to exit the King Power Stadium when the summer transfer window opens, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old has managed to play 27 league games for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side this season despite missing almost two months due to an injury.

Ndidi renewed extended his stay with Leicester City last summer, but with their relegation confirmed, it appears the ex-Genk man will try to force a move away from the club this summer. He has a €9m buy-out clause in his current contract.

Hendrie, who spent six months on loan with Leicester in the 2008/2009 season, admitted it’ll be hard for the club to keep Ndidi, and backed the Super Eagles star to move on.

“I was a big fan of him [when he was] playing in the Premier League. I know that he’s had injuries at times. I really do feel that the £9m will be met by someone and that’s the thing you have to look at.

“Clubs that have been promoted, I’m sure he’ll be on the radar of every one of them because of the position he plays, and can play. He can play holding, and he can go and get himself forward,” the 47-year-old said in an interview with Football League World.

“I just feel that Leicester have lost their way [in the] last few seasons, and they haven’t been able to bolster their squad.

“I think the Foxes will be disappointed if they lose him because he’s a strong midfielder that could fit into most top Championship sides and lower-half Premier League sides,” the ex-Sheffield United man concluded.

Leicester have been relegated from the English Premier League for the second time in three seasons. They’ll join Southampton and Ipswich Town in the EFL Championship next season.
