Google extends the deadline for Fitbit users to migrate their account

The new deadline is now February 2, 2026

Google has silently extended the deadline for users to migrate their existing Fitbit accounts and data to a Google account to Feb. 2, 2026. Google will delete all data and accounts that aren’t migrated over after the deadline.

After acquiring the health-oriented tech company in 2021, Google announced that beginning in 2023, new users would require a Google account to activate their Fitbit devices. Existing users would have two years to migrate their accounts over, the deadline being Feb. 2025.

To remind users of the upcoming change, Google sent an email to Fitbit account holders. Although the extension was not mentioned, Google simply stated that users must migrate to a Google account by Feb. 2, 2026.

The email also stated that Google will not retain any data past the date for non-migrated accounts past this date except to comply with local laws.

The migration will not add any new features or extra benefits; it will simply make signing in and organizing data easier.

This won’t affect many users, mainly those with a pre-acquisition Fitbit wearable or a first-gen Pixel watch who are sticking with their non-migrated Fitbit accounts. Newer devices were never given the option to create a Fitbit account; instead, they only allowed Google accounts to be used.

An account isn’t required to use the feature on Pixel watches, but the built-in app will be pretty limited and won’t retain any health data. It can only be used for steps and real-time heart rate monitoring unless an account is used.

If you still need to migrate accounts, you can tap your profile within the app to access the “Move account” option, which will commence the migration process.
