Is Chelsea really Victor Osimhen’s boyhood club? New report reveals the truth

Soccer

According to new reports, claims that Chelsea Football Club was Victor Osimhen’s boyhood club have been found to be inaccurate, Soccernet.ng understands.

The Napoli striker has often spoken about his admiration for former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba, who he describes as his football idol.

However, Buchi Laba, who is close to the player, have clarified that the former LOSC Lille star was never a Chelsea fan growing up.

This talks about Chelsea being Osimhen boyhood club is false. Never his boyhood club. He just wore the jersey like every young boy. Only thing that’s right is Drogba being his mentor. That’s all. https://t.co/Tx71IDYSIG

The confusion appears to have stemmed from an old photo of Osimhen wearing a Chelsea jersey as a youngster.

But like many Nigerian children at the time, wearing jerseys of popular European clubs was a common trend and did not necessarily reflect genuine support for the club.

While Osimhen’s admiration for Drogba is well-documented, there is no evidence that he supported Chelsea as a child. His connection to the Premier League side begins and ends with his respect for the Ivorian legend.

As transfer rumours linking the Nigerian international to Chelsea continue to circulate, reports reveal that the Nigerian attacker is still not moved by a move to the English Premier League.

Meanwhile, Osimhen continues to shine on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, scoring 31 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for the Yellow-Reds.
