The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics released a statement today, to share the news of the unexpected passing of freshman football student-athlete Jeremiah Kelly, who passed away early Tuesday morning at his residence.
“Our Bearcats football family is devastated by the sudden loss of such an incredible young man,” said Head Coach Scott Satterfield. “In the short time Jeremiah was with us, he left a meaningful impression—his talent, work ethic, and presence in the locker room will not be forgotten. We are holding the Kelly family in our hearts and prayers.”
A proud native of Avon, Ohio, Jeremiah was a standout at Avon High School, where he played a key role in leading the Eagles to a perfect 16-0 season and the school’s first-ever state championship in 2024. As a senior, he earned First-Team All-Conference and All-District honors, and was named the Southwestern Conference Lineman of the Year. The Plain Dealer also recognized him among Northeast Ohio’s Top 25 football prospects.
Jeremiah enrolled early at UC and had been practicing with the team during the spring semester.
“This is a heartbreaking day for our UC community,” said Director of Athletics John Cunningham. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Kelly family. Jeremiah’s spirit and potential touched everyone around him, and we will surround his teammates, coaches, and loved ones with support as we navigate this profound loss together.”
