MATCH HUB | FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (Including this match): Sonnett (107), Albert (26), Macario (23), A. Thompson (17), Yohannes (6), McKeown (4), Cooper (4), McGlynn (3), G. Thompson (3), Patterson (2), Hutton (2)

Soccer Notes:

  • This will be the fifth time in USWNT history that sisters have started a game together, the others coming when the Thompson sisters started against Australia on Feb. 23, 2025, and three times when the Mewis sisters, Samantha and Kristie, started together. The Thompsons are the third pair of sisters to be on the same USWNT roster, along with the Mewis sisters and Lorrie and Ronnie Fair in the late 1990s.
  • Today’s starting lineup has an average of 17.9 caps, including this match.
  • The last time starting lineup averaged fewer than 25 caps was April 12, 2022, vs Uzbekistan when Vlatko Andonovski put out a Starting XI that averaged 22.3 caps, including that start. It was the first cap for Naomi Girma.
  • The lowest average for a starting lineup before that was March 17, 2001, vs. reigning Olympic champion Norway at the Algarve Cup when the starting lineup averaged eight (8) caps per player, but that game was a bit of an anomaly as U.S. Soccer brought very young team to Portugal made up mostly of Under-23 players as the U.S. veterans were in pre-season training camps for the first season of the Women’s United Soccer League (WUSA).
  • Thus, this starting lineup vs. Brazil has the lowest average caps per player in last 24 years.
  • The starting XI vs. Australia on Feb. 23 averaged 33.6 caps per player.
  • Mandy McGlynn, 26,earns her third cap in her third start. She earned her first cap on Oct. 30, 2024, vs. Argentina (3-0 W) and second on Feb. 23, 2025, vs. Australia (2-1) win.
  • 2024 Olympic gold medalist Korbin Albert will earn her 26th cap and make her 13th start. She started one game at the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, that coming against Australia on Feb. 23. Her lone goal for the USA came in the Olympics, the game-winner in group play vs. Australia.
  • After playing 90 minutes against Brazil on April 5, Tara McKeown earns her fifth career cap and makes her fourth start. She started the first game of the SheBelieves Cup vs. Colombia, came off the bench against Australia and started against Japan. She will start her fourth game next to Emily Sonnett after having done so twice at the 2025 SBC and on April 5.
  • Alyssa Thompson will make her second straight start and earn her 17th cap. This will be just her sixth career start and second match starting for the USWNT with her younger sister Gisele. Thompson had the assist on Trinity Rodman’s goal against Brazil on April 5. It was her second career USWNT assist to go with one goal.
  • Gisele Thompson was a late addition to the roster after an injury to Tierna Davidson. She will earn her third cap and make her second start, which is also her second start with sister Alyssa Thompson. She earned her first cap on Feb. 20 vs. Colombia, playing the final 15 minutes, and in her first start on Feb. 23 vs. Argentina she played the first 76 minutes. This match will mark the second time she is on the field at the same time as older sister Alyssa for the USWNT.
  • Avery Patterson, 22, will earn her second cap and make her first start, after getting her first cap on April 5 vs. Brazil in Los Angeles when she came on at the end of the match. Patterson has been in the USA’s Youth National Team program at the U-14, U-20 and U-23 levels.
  • Emily Sonnett starts in the center of the defense to earn her 107th career cap. She played the full 90 minutes against Colombia on Feb. 20 before sitting out the match against Australia on Feb. 23 and then played the full 90 minutes against Brazil on April 5, a match in which she earned a yellow card. She will captain the USA for the second time. The first time was the first match of the SheBelieves Cup when she was being honored for her 100th cap.
  • Michelle Cooper will earn her fourth cap and make her first start. She captained the USA’s 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team and earned her first senior team cap on Feb. 20 vs. Colombia when she came into the match in 64th minute for Yazmeen Ryan. She scored her first USWNT goal on Feb. 23 vs. Australia in the SheBelieves Cup when she came into the game in the 62nd minute and scored in the 68th, which turned out to be the game-winner.
  • Claire Hutton, a veteran of the USA’s 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup Team, earns her second cap and makes her second start. She started against Australia on Feb. 23 at the SheBelieves Cup and played 69 minutes.
  • Catarina Macario, who was born in São Luís, Brazil before moving to the capital of Brasilia and then to San Diego, Calif., at the age 12, will play against the country of her birth for the second time. She will earn her 23rd career cap and is looking to hit double-figures in goals with her next international score. Against Colombia on Feb. 20, 2025, she scored her first USWNT goal in 712 days.
  • Lily Yohannes will earn her sixth cap and make her third career start. She played the final 30 minutes on April 5 vs. Brazil and earned the penalty kick that clinched the game for the USA.
