Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Dest, Balogun, and more

Soccer

PSV’s chances of repeating as Eredivisie champions are slipping away, but Sergino Dest and Co. still have few lifelines remaining.

Dest has started in each of PSV’s last two matches and will be aiming to retain his spot for Saturday’s showdown with FC Groningen. The U.S. men’s national team full back has looked back to his old self since returning from his serious knee injury, featuring against Waalwijk and Ajax respectively. The 24-year-old hasn’t been a major part of PSV’s season but overall could help provide a spark over the remaining five weeks of the season.

PSV sits nine points back of league-leading Ajax and cannot afford any more slip ups, especially against a Groningen side who are 26 points behind them.

In France, Folarin Balogun and Monaco take on Stade Brest. Mark McKenzie and Toulouse face Marseille.

In Italy, Tim Weah, Weston McKennie and Juventus visit AS Roma.

In England, Antonee Robinson and Fulham seek a bounce-back result against Liverpool. Tyler Adams and Bournemouth visit West Ham United.

In Germany, Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach visit St. Pauli. Kevin Paredes seeks his first minutes since returning from injury.

In Spain, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis visit Barcelona in La Liga play.

Elsewhere, Cade Cowell and Chivas take on Monterrey. George Bello and LASK continue the Bundesliga relegation playoffs. Marlon Fossey and Standard Liege face Sporting Charleroi. Auston Trusty seeks to make his return to action for Celtic after returning to the squad last weekend. Malik Tillman aims for a first start since coming back to action for PSV.
