GamCare Taps Healthcare Heavyweight Corbishley as CEO

GamCare, the charity responsible for the United Kingdom’s problem gambling hotline, announced the appointment of Victoria Corbishley as its new chief executive officer. The service praised its new heads’ leadership experience and said that her appointment comes at a “pivotal moment” for the healthcare and gaming sectors.

Victoria Corbishley Joins the GamCare Team

Corbishley is a healthcare expert who has previously been a part of the British Red Cross, serving the organization as its senior director of health and care. In this position, she led nationwide health operations and played a role in shaping UK community services.

Most importantly, Corbishley boasts a track record in leading complex health systems and driving service improvements. In addition to the British Red Cross, she has served the NHS, voluntary sector and has long championed healthcare innovation.

GamCare praised her continued career commitment to “evidence-based, person-centered care” and applauded her focus on championing intervention and prevention.

The appointment of Corbishley comes as the UK’s need for gambling support increases. In her position, the new appointee will lead the service’s efforts to make treatment more accessible, visible and effective.

For context, GamCare offers face-to-face, online and telephone therapeutic support and treatment for harmed individuals and their loved ones. The service is a part of the National Gambling Support Network and delivers treatment sessions in five major regions, namely South East, East Midlands, London, Scotland, and Yorkshire Humber.

Corbishley’s Expertise Is What GamCare Needed

Corbishley commented on her appointment, saying that she feels honored to join GamCare at such a crucial time for the service and the gambling harm treatment sector as a whole. She pointed out that the helpline received some 55,000 calls and chat requests in 2024 alone, highlighting the growing demand for its services.

GamCare also delivered 9,100+ treatment sessions, referred 7,100+ individuals to other regional support services and reached 64,000 people with its education programs. According to Corbishley, these figures speak for themselves, highlighting GamCare’s key role in problem gambling support.

In her position, Corbishley will make sure that GamCare remains ahead of the curve when it comes to treatment.

My focus will be on ensuring GamCare remains a leader in delivering life-changing interventions while working closely with partners across the NHS and wider sector to shape the future of gambling harm prevention treatment.

Victoria Corbishley, CEO, GamCare

GamCare’s board chair, Margot Daly, welcomed Corbishley to the team, saying that she will be instrumental in strengthening the charity’s collaborations with the NHS, UKRI and OHID. Daly added that the new CEO’s skill set is just what the problem gambling support service needed.

Her strategic mindset, operational expertise, and commitment to innovation align perfectly with our mission. I look forward to working with Victoria as we continue to expand GamCare’s impact and ensure our services remain responsive to the needs of those we support.

Last year, GamCare reported an increase in the number of young adults seeking self-exclusion, which further highlights the importance of its services.
