Soccer What Cyriel Dessers said after helping Rangers dump Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce out of Europa League

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers made a post on Instagram to celebrate Rangers’ penalty shoot-out win over Fenerbahce in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Rangers and Fenerbahce provided a spectacle in the Europa League on Thursday. In the first leg that was played in Turkey, Rangers claimed a shock 3-1 win, with Dessers supplying a goal and an assist. So going into the second leg, Jose Mourinho and his lads had to beat the Gers by at least two points to seal a place in the next round.

Dessers has been in fine form since the start of the year, and coach Barry Ferguson gave him the task of leading the line for Rangers. He also added

Fenerbahce saw more of the ball and created the better chances in the first half. And they took the lead in the 45th minutes courtesy of Sebastian Szymanski.

Rangers looks better in the second half, and they created multiple chances. However, they could brrach Fenerbahce’s backline.

Dessers had a great first leg, but he was not given space this time and was silent. He was eventually taken off for Hamza Igamane in the 68th minute.

Eventually, Rangers ended normal time with a 2-0 loss, and that pushed the game into extra time and then penalty shoot-outs. The Gers won the shoot-out as they missed one while Fenerbahce missed two of their·spot kicks.

Following their win, Dessers took to Instagram to celebrate Rangers’ win. He shared a picture from the Europa League page with the caption, “Up to the quarterfinals, what a night.”

Cyriel Dessers and his Rangers side will take on Athletic Bilbao in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Europa League.

Bilbao beat Roma 4-3 on aggregate, so it promises to be a sterner test for the Gers. Nonetheless, Dessers has good history in Europe, as he led Feyenoord to the UEFA Conference League finals three seasons ago.  As such, Ferguson can bank on him to deliver the goods.
