Oxford NHS Trust had most staff assaults incidents in south east since 2019

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust has had the most amount of staff assault incidents in the south east since 2019, a new investigation has revealed.

A Freedom of Information request submitted by LegalExpert.co.uk found that NHS Trusts in the south east have paid out more than £2 million settling staff assault legal claims in the last five years.

It also revealed that Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust had the most staff assault incidents in the south east raised to the NHS legal body, standing at 26 over the last five years.

It has paid out £84,103, setting 12 claims.

The highest amount paid out in the region and in the country since 2019 was Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which has settled 10 claims and paid a total of £1,180,394.

The data showed that NHS Trusts across the south east have paid a combined total of £2,091,238 settling 60 NHS staff assault claims since 2019 but the number of claims and incidents reported to NHS Resolution, the legal arm of the NHS, is far higher.

In response to this, a spokesperson for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said: “Oxford Health is a large trust which covers a wide geographical area including Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire and Swindon, and Bath and north east Somerset.

“Our staff are at the very heart of what we do, and violence towards our staff is unacceptable.

“The safety of our staff and patients is of prime importance and the prediction, prevention and management of violence and aggression is a central aspect of the care we provide.”
