Seeking an immediate La Liga response on Sunday lunchtime, Getafe will travel to local rivals Leganes.
Starting with the hosts, while Leganes might have made their La Liga return this season, Borja Jimenez’s men have a real battle on their hands in the race to keep hold of their top-flight status. Putting in another worrying performance last week as they slumped to a routine 3-0 drumming against Real Sociedad, the former Mirandes boss finds his squad at the heart of a public struggle. Crashing out of the Copa del Rey on February 5th as they fell to an action-packed 3-2 loss against Real Madrid, Leganes have also collected just a single point from any of their previous four La Liga appearances. Signing off January with a 1-0 defeat against Rayo Vallecano, Sunday’s hosts are pencilled in as a leading relegation candidate over the final few months. Putting just a sole La Liga win on the board since the middle of December, Jimenez’s men have gained a reputation for their defensive issues. In fact, Leganes have conceded 12 goals in their last five matchups across all formats.
As for the visitors, falling to a 2-1 loss at home against Real Betis last time out, Getafe are seeking an immediate response on Sunday afternoon. However, although the Blues might almost find themselves sat in La Liga limbo, Jose Bordalas’ camp have impressed since returning from Spain’s festive break. Despite watching their Copa del Rey adventure come to an end on February 4th as they fell to a 5-0 drumming at the hands of Atletico Madrid, the former Valencia boss has seen his squad suffer just a single defeat from any of their previous seven La Liga showdowns. Despite settling for a 1-1 stalemate when they welcomed Leganes to the Estadio Coliseum for their reverse meeting on September 22nd, Getafe will be excited by a dominant record against their local rivals. In fact, including a 3-0 romp when they last travelled to Sunday’s hosts in January 2020, they have collected seven points from their previous three La Liga meetings.
