Entertainment Company of Heroes debuts multiplayer skirmish mode for iOS port
  • Company of Heroes, the hit RTS from Relic entertainment, ported by Feral interactive, is getting multiplayer!
  • A recent iOS beta sees the addition of the highly-requested skirmish mode feature
  • Duke it out as factions inspired by the real-life militaries of World War Two

When it comes to Relic entertainment, although many will know them for the hit Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series, some others will have a fondness for their WW2 RTS series Company of Heroes. The original was made available a little while back on mobile with one key missing feature, multiplayer. That is, until now.

Yes, I’ve spotted on the iOS page for Company of Heroes the enticing news that Online Skirmish Mode has debuted as a beta feature. This will allow you to duke it out with other players as one of the included factions; whether that’s the Americans and Germans, or the expanded UK and Panzer Elite factions that are featured in the included Opposing Fronts expansion.

Company of Heroes is fondly remembered for managing to strike a dynamic balance between realistic warfare and more gamified RTS fun. It’s not just about having the more expensive unit, as one wrong move can leave your infantry shot to ribbons in the open or a tank holed in the vulnerable armour behind it.

There goes my (Company of) Hero(es)

I admit I always preferred duking it out versus the AI in RTS because it was shocking just how well-versed some players were in their build order and ability to micromanage their units. So for those of you who’ve been lamenting this key feature missing in the very polished iOS release of this RTS classic, I’m sure this is a red-letter day for you.

In the meantime, if you’re looking to expand your strategy repertoire you may be shocked to find just how many great releases there are on mobile. Dig into our list of the top 25 best strategy games for Android and iOS to find all the best RTS and grand-strategy releases that’ll test your mettle.
