The robbers reportedly stormed the former Enyimba FC chairman’s home, ransacked the property, and inflicted injuries on Chief Anyansi-Agwu before fleeing with one of his vehicles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira.

Chief Anyansi-Agwu is a revered figure in Nigerian football, having led Enyimba International FC to historic back-to-back CAF Champions League triumphs in 2003 and 2004.

Those victories were Nigeria’s first successes in the competition and earned him consecutive African Football Manager of the Year awards at the CAF Awards in 2003 and 2004.

In response to the shocking incident, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau visited Chief Anyansi-Agwu’s Abuja residence on Wednesday morning to offer his support and prayers.

During the visit, Alhaji Gusau expressed relief that the attack did not result in any loss of life and prayed for the speedy recovery of Chief Anyansi-Agwu and the well-being of his family.

“The NFF President has been to the house of Chief Anyansi-Agwu. I will also be going to his house shortly to empathise with him and his family,” stated NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

“This is an unwholesome incident, and the Executive Committee, Management, and Staff of NFF feel the stress of the Anyansi-Agwu family at this period.”

Authorities are yet to apprehend the perpetrators at press time, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
