Metaplanet Inc. Announces Bitcoin Treasury Operations as New Business Line

Metaplanet Inc. formally announced the expansion of its business activities portfolio to add Bitcoin Treasury operations. This decision was made during a board meeting held on December 18, 2024. The company’s management highlighted the importance of Bitcoin as part of its financial strategy. It further explained the need to hold Bitcoin as an alternative to traditional cash reserves.

The company plans to take advantage of Bitcoin’s potential as a store of value and diversify its portfolio. Metaplanet aims to strategically increase its Bitcoin holdings over the long term. This new line of business will be instrumental in the generation of revenue for the company and help to strengthen the company’s position in the growing Bitcoin space.

‘Bitcoin Only’ Strategy Will Utilize Loans, Equity Issuances, and Bonds

Metaplanet’s decision to implement a “Bitcoin Only” strategy is part of its Bitcoin Treasury Management that aims to accumulate and hold more Bitcoin. 

The company, through previous announcements, communicated its plan to fund its Bitcoin purchase through various means such as  loans, issuance of equity and convertible bonds. These  financial instruments will enable the company to issue securities and raise funds while minimizing the dilution of its ownership structure.

This approach reflects the company’s belief in Bitcoin’s long-term value and its potential as a hedge against traditional financial assets. Metaplanet plans to use these strategies to fund its Bitcoin acquisition and become a leader in Bitcoin Treasury in Japan and globally.

Metaplanet has partnered with Bitcoin Magazine Japan to promote the adoption of Bitcoin in Japan. The partnership was made on the 25th November 2024 and will see Metaplanet introduce the internationally recognized Bitcoin media brand to Japan. This partnership aligns with the company’s mission to educate and encourage Bitcoin adoption among Japanese citizens and businesses.

The partnership with Bitcoin Magazine strengthens Metaplanet’s commitment to become a pioneer in promotion and education on Bitcoin adoption around the world.
