Look: Orioles change the game with a home run ‘beer’ funnel

The Orioles are celebrating home runs with a beer-less beer funnel which makes them the winner of the home run celebration derby.

Over the last few years we’ve seen turnover props take over college football. The phenomenon is now taking over baseball with home run props. And the Orioles just won first prize.

After home runs, Baltimore’s hitters won’t wear something, like the Angels and their Samurai home run helmet, they’ll have to chug something out of a funnel.

Ryan Mountcastle demonstrated the practice with the help of James McCann after his first home run of the season on Monday.

Don’t worry, that wasn’t a can of beer Mountcastle was chugging. It was just a bottle of water delivered in the most frat house friendly way possible.

But don’t go calling it a “dong bong” as some on Twitter have taken to doing. Pitcher Kyle Gibson revealed the true name of the celebratory prop: Homer Hose.

“We want to make sure that it’s rebranded a little bit. It’s a homer hose — not a dong bong. It’s a homer hose. Just like as a kid, you go out back, you take a drink from the water hose after you play outside playing whiffle ball,” Gibson told Luke Jones of BaltimorePositive.com.

Whatever you want to call it, it’s magnificent.

The Orioles are going to be very well-hydrated this season if they keep hitting bombs. We can thank Cole Irvin and Keegan Akin for coming up with the idea, per Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner.

On Monday, they beat the Athletics 5-1 to improve to 5-5 on the season. Along with Mountcastle, Adley Rutchman and Austin Hayes hit homers.

Baltimore may not be ready to contend for the AL East (certainly not with Tampa Bay on the ridiculous tear they’re on) but they have some young stars and they’re becoming an entertaining bunch.
