Wates Residential has been appointed to develop more than 300 homes for Brent Council.

The contractor will build 304 homes on two separate sites, on a contract worth £100m, according to construction intelligence provider Glenigan.

The majority of the homes will be built on the site of a former school, in blocks ranging between five and nine storeys. The former Copland School site will see 152 homes created for private sale, with another 98 being affordable homes.

Across the road at Ujima House, Wates will build a further 54 affordable homes.

Wates’ contract with Brent Council is the latest in a number of jobs it has scooped with the client. It is currently working on 99 homes on Church End, while it recently finished 149 homes at Knowles House and Anansi House.

Wates Residential regional managing director Nick Williams said: “Our guiding principle is that everyone deserves a great place to live, and these modern new homes will be warm, comfortable and safe to live in.

“Not only that but we will be working with the local community to deliver these mixed-tenure homes. This means employing the services of local businesses and people along the way to help regenerate the area and inspire a new community.”

Housing represents an increasing part of Wates’ focus, and in 2021 helped boost the firm’s profit above it’s pre-pandemic performance.

In January, the contractor scooped a £142m contract to build 334 new homes in east London.
