10+ Easter Eggs in “Wednesday” That Will Make You Want to Rewatch the Series

Since its premiere on Netflix on November 23, 2022, Wednesday has captured everyone’s attention, with many fans quickly binging through all 8 episodes. The Tim Burton-directed dark comedy has set new records for viewership and has become one of the most-watched English-language series on Netflix. In the series, however, there were many hidden references that most of us couldn’t spot, so we decided to uncover Wednesday’s little Easter eggs.

1. Gomez’s prison uniform number

In episode 5, when Gomez gets arrested, he changes into a prison uniform with the number 17 19 12. The number is the date and year when Charles Addams, the original Addams Family sitcom creator, was born.

2. The scene when Pugsley is thrust up with an apple stuffed in his mouth

In the first episode’s opening scene, Wednesday finds her brother locked in a school locker with an apple in his mouth. This scene mirrors how Pugsley was introduced in The Adams Family movie from 1991 when Wednesday has his brother tied up with a rope and an apple in his mouth for archery practice.

3. Wednesday sleeping with her arms crossed

After the gargoyle incident, Wednesday ends up in the infirmary room, where we can see her sleeping with her arms crossed. This scene is also a nod to the old The Addams Family movie in which Wednesday goes to sleep with her arms folded across her chest.

4. The license plate on their car spells their family name.

Also, the license plate reveals that they live in New Jersey and pays tribute to Charles Addams (born in Westfield, New Jersey), the man who drew the original cartoons.

5. Morticia ripping off the flower head of a rose when visiting Garett Gate’s grave

This act is nothing new for Morticia’s character, as in both The Addams Family sitcom and The Addams Family movie, we can see her cutting off the heads of roses she picks.

6. Snapping twice to open the secret entrance to the Nightshade Society’s basement

Well, the code to snap twice has a story behind it, and it wasn’t invented by mistake. It originates from The Adams Family theme song and opening credits, where the family snaps twice with the rhythm of the music.

7. The giant stuffed bear in Principal Gwendoline Christie’s office

Again, this is one more reference to The Addams Family sitcom from 1964. In the series, we can see that the Addams have a stuffed bear in their house.

8. The Nevermore Academy yearbook

When Morticia looks through the yearbook on Wednesday, we can see the year 1991 on the cover. This hints that she attended Nevermore the same year the movie The Addams Family was released.

9. The “I can eat girl scouts for breakfast” phrase

When Tyler asks Wednesday in episode 3 whether she has ever been a girl scout, she answers, “I can eat girl scouts for breakfast.” This references The Adams Family movie when Pugsley and Wednesday sell lemonade. Amanda, a girl scout, approaches them, saying, “I’ll buy a cup if you buy a box of my delicious Girl Scout cookies.” And Wednesday replies, “Are they made from real girl scouts?”

10. The dried-up head on the principal’s desk

This is a nod to Harry the Hunter’s shrunken head from Tim Burton’s 1988 movie, Beetlejuice.

11. The names on the window when Wednesday visits her therapist, Dr. Valerie Kinbott

The show’s creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, are mentioned as real estate agents under the name of Wednesday’s therapist. And the names below are Tommy Harper, one of the executive producers on the show, and the associate producer, Natalie Testa.
