Meta and Apple are no longer in the top 100 best places to work, according to the new Glassdoor rankings for 2023. Google remains in the top ten, and tech companies still dominate.

Back in 2018, Meta, then branded Facebook, was number one on the list. According to employees, there were loads of perks, including health benefits, food, transport bonuses, and a great culture.

In that same year, Apple ranked in 84th place but also now failed to place in the top one hundred. Glassdoor wrote,

They further went on to say,

Many companies made our ’23 list in part due to flexible work environments, improved benefits packages, and a focus on work-life balance. Three of the top 10 companies have made it to our top 10 list three years in a row: NVIDIA, Bain & Company, and Google.

Google has consistently been in the top 10, with Google employees generally speaking positively about their experience working at the company. They often mention the company’s strong culture, innovative projects, and opportunities for growth and development.

They also praise the company’s perks and benefits, such as free food and shuttle services. However, some employees have also raised concerns about the company’s work-life balance and the pressure to innovate constantly.

Tech Companies Are Still Good Places to Work Despite the Drop in Perks

Tech companies have often been considered good places to work for a variety of reasons. They often gave competitive compensation packages, including high salaries, stock options, and bonuses to keep employees from moving to the competition.

40% of the list comprises tech companies, and they make up 60% of the top 10

They also provide lots of opportunities for growth and development as employees are at the forefront of innovation. In addition, the workplace usually provides a range of amenities such as on-site gyms, free meals, and shuttle services.

However, in recent months, tech companies have slashed perks in extreme cost-cutting measures. Most tech companies have announced that they will no longer be offering several benefits, such as free meals and on-site laundry services.

The reason for these cuts is largely due to budget constraints caused by the economic downturn, a return to pre-pandemic consumer habits, and inflation. But, despite the benefit losses, tech companies still dominate the top one hundred best places to work according to employees.

The list, which is published yearly by Glassdoor, is based on feedback from 19 October 2021 to 17 October 2022 on companies with at least 1,000 employees. In total, 40% of the companies on the list are tech companies, and they make up 60% of the top ten.
